Ever since we have had the Process MeNtOR deliverables, there was one thing that kept bugging me. In some templates, whenever you do an update of the Table of Contents, Word would stick in a tab at 5.5 cm, resulting in an ugly table of contents requiring careful reformatting of the table.
Well I found the cause of the problem and how to correct it (thanks to MS Word 2007 file formats).
To correct the formatting do this in the affected documents
-
In Style Manager find a style called “TOC5” (stands for table of contents level 5). Usually this style is hidden away so you won’t see it as a default.
-
This style has a left indent of 5.5 cm. Change the left indent to a smaller value. 1.25 cm works for me.
-
Save and do a complete rebuild of the table of contents. Voila
I have fixed this in Office 2007 word documents (sorry can’t do in office 2003 file formats). If you want the fixed documents email me and I will put it up somewhere. However they are in .docx format. To be able to read and open them from Office 2003 you need a converter which can be downloaded here:
